Red Carpet Review: 2011 American Music Awards

It’s award season! Fall is the best time of year ever. In fact, my birthday birthday is in three days (on Black Friday of all days. Usually it’s Thanksgiving.), the leaves are bright orange, there’s an ever so slight chill in the air, and we’re heading into award season and the holidays. Today I have my views on the fashion and makeup of the 2011 American Music Awards.

Alanis Morissette

She did have a baby right? You couldn’t tell! She looks fantastic! She wore a black Theyskens Theory belted gown. Gold accents and brick red lips make this perfectly fall. While I absolutely love her hair for a casual event or just everyday wear, I wish she had done a J. Lo- or Kim Kardashian-esque tight ponytail with a fishtail braid, rather than a loose, low side tail. I personally hate the shoes, because I have a mental image of a relative’s nasty toes hanging off the edge of shoes like this. And now you’re also scarred for life. Overall, she looks amazing, and gorgeous for being the mom of a almost-one-year-old.

Amy Heidemann

Now, I have no idea who Karmin are, but I’ll google them after this, but I love her outfit! It’s retro-rainbow-chic! So many fun colors without looking like a mess, fun hair, and pretty makeup. Just wanted to get her style out there.

Audrina Patridge

Oh, Audrina. Each thing looks pretty separately, but I’m not feeling all this together. She’s wearing a body con dress by Joey Tierney, platform heels, tight curls, a harsh red lip, and too much metal. I’d like to see a taupe or gray platform heels, a softer wavy heel, less bling, a smokey eggplant with

Cheryl Hines

The Suburgatory actress flubbed in a Lorena Sarbu dress that looked like Suri Cruise would say was too girly and didn’t flatter her at all. That, and the bronze-ish heels made this a universal fail. Her makeup and hair looked very pretty though, and if she wore a different dress, she would’ve looked amazing.

Christina Aguilera

WARNING: FASHION MESS AHEAD. Oh, you already saw the picture? Oops. Now, I’m well aware that this isn’t a flattering picture in the first place, but this is the most flattering I could find. Bondage wrap dress from Herve Leger, Christian Louboutin pumps, frizzy crazy hair, and maybe a baby bump? Aye yi yi. And I thought she had hit fashion rock bottom with her pantsless adventures lately…

Heidi Klum

RAWR! Heidi Klum rocking a laser cut dress by Giles Deacon, sexy wavy hair, smokey eyes, nude lips, and black sling backs. Now, I don’t like sling backs, but the dress draws my eyes away from that. I don’t know how I feel about the navy/black underneath, but really people. It’s Heidi Klum. She can do no wrong. Ever. Ever.

Hot Chelle Rae

The members of Hot Chelle Rae looking dapper. I love the third guys swishy hair, the various styles, and the lead singers tattoo. I don’t know their names, but I love their music, and I Like It Like That. See what I did there?

Jennifer Hudson

Oh hi, pretty lady. This dress looks like liquid metal molded to her gorgeous curves. Dress by Jenny Packham (a favorite of the Duchess of Cambridge), bangles by M.C.L. by Matthew Campbell Laurenza. Shoes by Christian Louboutin. Her super sleek straight hair and hot pink lips add even more edge to her sexy look.

Jennifer Lopez

Hola Mami! J. Lo stunning in a Zuhair Murad lace dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, Neil Lane jewels. Hair and makeup were Jennifer’s usual tight bun and bombshell  smokey eye. But I liked her performance look better!

This is her performance look, soft natural goddess that she is. Giambattista Valli, straight off the runway. Love this look, this dress. UGH. Perfection. Ombre leopard capey goodness.

Jennifer Morrison

Another Jennifer, though fashion-wise, not as interesting. Pretty hair, gorgeous makeup, dress by Temperly London. The dress didn’t flatter her at all. If it were better fitting, she’d have been a best dressed, but it’s kind of safe compared to the other attendee

Jenny McCarthy

Jenny McCarthy! HELLO DAHLING! Eggplant bell dress by Victoria Beckham, sideswept big curls, super vampy makeup, and ankle booties! And later, she wore big heavy framed glasses and I fell in love with her. So pretty.

Joe Jonas

I don’t usually judge mens fashion, because to me it all kinda looks the same, but um… is that a see through shirt? And weirdly baggy pants? Uh… Okay. And did you notice how when they announced him they said his album was “tearing up the charts?” Yeah, hasn’t it sold like 20,000 copies? That’s not good. At all. 8/

John Schnatter

What’s Papa John doing there?

Katherine Heigl

Katherine Heigl rocking a pewter low cut, high rise Roberto Cavalli dress with Jimmy Choo shoes and Sultra sapphire and black diamond tassel earrings.

Katy Perry

Katy looking kookyglam in a pink Chinese-inspired Vivianne Westwood gown, a pink retro undo with many flowers, and royal blue peep toe platforms. So pretty. And her performance was amazing.

Kimberly Perry

FASHION FACEOFF! Kimberly Perry in a yellow and black Botega Venetta dress and Venetta clutch. Wavy hair, natural makeup, strappy heels. Pretty, but its almost identical to Emma Stone’s MTV look back in the summer. Yikes.

Lionel Richie

LIONEL! Wearing his signature black jacket, scary, tinted glasses. Being awesome. Being all Lionel-y. I love him so much.

Mary J. Blige

Mary, no! Dress is too tight, and just ugly, with the gaudy earrings, and the tattoo hanging out it looks a little Jersey Shore. This is Roberto Cavalli.

Matthew Morrison

Matthew Morrison: Suave. Yum. Smooth. Nothing else to say. I really suck at mens fashion. Pfft. Whatever, he’s cute.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj! Love her. Although… she was dressed extremely casually last night, for her at least. A bubblegum pink wig, cute. Oscar de la Renta taffeta and lace gown, chic. Alexander McQueen wedges, can’t go wrong. So… yeah. She looked good. Congrats on her award last night!

Sarah Drew

I don’t know who this is! I had to google her. Apparently, she’s on Grey’s Anatomy. Huh. She’s gorgeous! Her dress looks amazing, she’s glowing. Flawless hair and makeup, happy smiles. Only thing wrong is those shoes. If the red vamp was just black like the rest, it’d look amazing.

Taylor Swift

Selena looked GORGEOUS. I personally don’t like the dress, but she looked amazing in it. The way the shadow falls makes her look super skinny, and she’s so pretty. Justin looked like a penguin, but she rocked her Giorgio Armani like no ones business. Her Candy Ice earrings feature gold, diamonds, and black onyx.

Selena also won my Best Makeup of the night. GORGE US. I’m dying. Smooth skin, peachy blush, a nice creamy opaque peach lipstick and perfect eye makeup. I love that her brows aren’t perfect either. And her hair? To die.

Taylor Swift

Pretty! She wore a beaded Reem Acra gown, Lorraine Schwartz jewels, and Jimmy Choo shoes. Beautiful, youthful makeup, very natural. And her hair? OMG. I love when she straightens her hair. And remember that one time she had bangs? I wanna be her stylist. Here her hair is long and straight and sleek. And there’s a tiny twist right above her ear to keep it youthful.

Vanessa Lachey

A vision in white. Keeping it all neutral with ivory pumps by Jimmy Choo, an asymmetrical mini by Aje, super loose and soft curls, bombshell makeup, and a new last name, Vanessa Lachey (née Manillo) looked fabulous in the number. Perfection.

Julie Bowen

Last but not least, Julie Bowen, who looked all but festive in this sparkly number by Manish Arora. She also wore black peep toe pumps, a natural smokey eye, and a high wrapped bun. Gorgeous, but not… award show worthy, I don’t think… maybe a Christmas party? I don’t know. I just doesn’t seem appropriate.

So what did you guys think? Who’s your best dressed?
