Review: Beauty Box Five

Tonight I have for you a super-awesome review of a beauty box I was sent. Beauty Box Five is a beauty subscription not unlike Birchbox. For $12 a month, you get 4 or 5 deluxe beauty samples (tiny little versions of the product, not those god-awful little packets) in the mail. Just as with any beauty box subscription, it’s like Christmas each month. Where Beauty Box Five differs though, is quality and quantity. I’ll get into that more below.

Beauty Box Five differs from most beauty boxes with its packaging. Others tend to come in an outer shipping box, and the inner box with the products inside. Beauty Box Five takes the extra packaging out, and holds the products in the shipping box, saving some cardboard resources and making it one less layer to your goodies.

It arrives on your doorstep as a pristine Tiffany blue little box. That’s another thing I noticed — it’s tiny! It’s about the size of my hand, which is smaaaaaall. At first this worried me. Then I opened it.

IMG_7027Inside is a mesh bag with all of your goodies inside, on top of, and surrounded by dark brown/black shredded, crinkly paper that keeps your items from bouncing around inside, which is absolutely adorable and genius. The color scheme and packaging of BB5 is so on my level. Unlike other subscription services, there is no cheat sheet in your box to tell you about your items, there’s simply a thank you card that directs you to your product information online. Again, saving some resources. I like that.

Inside is a mesh bag with all of your products, which is again, resourceful and reusable. This way, your stuff isn’t flying around the inside of an un-stuffed, bigger box. *coughBirchboxcough* Anyway, let’s take a look.

Blinc | Mascara | Full size: $26 for .21oz

Beauty Box Five website says:

Finally a no-hassle, no-smudge, water-resistant mascara that you don’t have to re-apply! Great for those with sensitive eyes and contact-wearers, this non-irritating mascara actually creates tubes around your lashes that will even wear through a workout! To apply, just remove the wand and apply to lashes!

I was given this sample in my Birchbox, though the one in my Birchbox was much bigger. Blinc is a really good brand for waterproof eyeliner and mascara. I use the mascara often, and if I could find my eyeliner, I’d use that at well.

City Lips | Lip plumper, clear | Full size: $35

From the Beauty Box Five website:

Visibly plumper lips are just minutes away with this amazing, power-packed plumper! Simply apply and watch, your lips will become fuller as the minutes pass and the results will typically last four to six hours! What’s better? CITY Lips has proven long-term benefits. Used twice daily, CITY Lips users have seen plumper, fuller lips in only 30 days!

Oh, lip plumpers… I’m not a fan. This one isn’t too bad. It tastes like vanilla and doesn’t sting too bad. It just feels really warm and tingly. I don’t like the taste/smell, but there has to be menthol in here somewhere, because my cold let up a teeny bit. Actually… now that I’m wearing it a little longer, it is kind of burning. I hate these things. I’d rather use contouring and highlighting to create the illusion of fuller lips. This one is clear, and has a brush applicator, where the full size also comes in colored versions and have a doe foot applicator.

IMG_7042

Bodyography | Foundation Primer | Full size: $30

From the Beauty Box website:

This multi-purpose foundation primer (which is packed with anti-oxidants and vitamins) extends the wear of foundation, fills in fine lines and pores, helps prevent collagen breakdown AND aids in the evening out of skin tone!

This is a clear foundation primer which I believe is silicone-based, or at least feels like it is. It’s got that lovely silky feel and a smooth matte finish. It smells like maybe jasmine or camomile or baby powder. It’s relaxing and it doesn’t last long, but it does smell a little “old lady-ish”, which some people may not like. As a primer, it’s pretty good. Nothing outstanding compared to MUFE, Urban Decay, or Lancôme. But it’s definitely on par with them, at a tad bit lower price point.

IMG_7046

Pūr~lisse | pūr~delicate Makeup Remover and Cleanser | Full size: $36 for 5.6 fl oz

From the Beauty Box Five site:

Give your skin a fresh start every day with pūr~delicate from pūr~lisse. Their special blend of soy milk, soy proteins, white tea and whole oat leaves your skin caressably smooth without removing natural oils. pūr~delicate will soothe your skin, not irritate it. Soap-free and non-foaming, pūr~delicate is strong enough to remove dirt and makeup, yet gentle enough to preserve and enhance your skin’s natural beauty. Bring home pure cleansing power with pūr~delicate.

I didn’t get to try this for too long, maybe one or two days, but I liked it. It was soft and gentle, but really did it’s job well. I like the scent. It smells really clean and not chemical at all. The scent is actually very akin to Lancôme’s Nutrix Royal body cream. Very relaxing, but not long lasting, so it doesn’t disrupt any of your perfumes or oils.

Lash Card | Mascara Sheilds | Full size: $6.99 for a 10 pack.

From the Beauty Box Five website:

Minimizing those mascara mistakes has never been easier! Great for maximizing curl, separating lashes and avoiding those bottom lash mishaps, these discrete little cards are your lashes new best friend!

These little things are nifty, and I think they should come in a hygienic plastic version for use on clients. They do their job and they do it well, but I just don’t find where I would actually need them. Most people don’t have an issue with applying mascara. The only reason I could really think they’d come in handy were if you were to use a mascara with a large brush, like DiorShow or Revlon Grow Luscious by FabuLash. You know, the ones with the wand that’s as big as your eye? I love those ones. But they can make a mess. I did find that using the shields on your under eyes for coating the bottom lashes was extremely helpful, seeing as that’s where you’ll most likely fudge up, or holding it in a way to protect your inner eye area/nose when you get the inside lashes. But in the end, it’s an extra hand that you need, which makes it kind of difficult at times, and not truly worth it. Makeup Artists though, may benefit from it if they find they have issues with applying mascara to clients.

Alrighty! That’s the last product in the box! Let’s sum everything up:

Packaging: Beauty Box Five, I think has the best packaging in the beauty subscription world. It’s not too fancy or wasteful, and while you’re getting the same amount of samples, you just feel like you’re getting more because the box is smaller and your products are surrounded by that dark Easter grass stuff, where Birchbox, you have a too-big box that doesn’t support it’s contents, allow it’s contents to slip and slide around at it’s own free will. BB5 packaging is smaller and less wasteful, and while they don’t seem to claim that, nor do they claim that their boxes are reusable and resourceful, as Birchbox says, these are far more conservative and eco-friendly.

Quantity: You receive 4-5 items per box, I received five in this box.

Quality: For $12 a month ($2 more per month than Birchbox), you’re getting the same amount of product in deluxe sample sizes with no extra “lifestyle” products like Birchbox just love to give out. For me, that’s fine. I’m not looking for headphones or granola bars, I’m looking for beauty products. Beauty Box Five seems like a much more intimate experience, and their Beauty Profile that your boxes are based off of are much more detailed, and therefore your boxes are (hopefully) more custom. I did find myself wish I had the product card in front of me, but only for the prices for full-size versions as well as the size of full-size product. In terms of product description, I find that the packaging on the products themselves explain enough for me. The rest I can read online.

Brands Offered: Companies that show on their “Brand” page include, but are not limited to: Model Co., Ferro Cosmetics, Ellis Faas, h.wood.beauty, Bodyography, Nastassja, Silk Naturals, City Cosmetics, Cetaphil, Swagger Cosmetics, Lash Card, Furlesse, Show Stoppers, Becca, Freeman, Supergoop, La Fresh, Pūr~lisse, Merlot, blinc cosmetics, Travalo, MakeupGeek, It’s a 10, Priti NYC, Weleda, and Blûm Naturals.

I find this list to be impressive, but not over the top. Many box subscription companies list brands that they feature once with weak examples, then never send again, yet still claim them. I’d love to see something from brands like Becca, MakeupGeek, Weleda, La Fresh, and definitely Travalo (the travel-perfume thing!). Another great one is Cetaphil, a great consumer brand. Other brands on the list like Tree Hut, Freeman, It’s A 10, and Evie Evan I’ve either never heard of, or I’ve heard of but have never been able to try.

Final Thoughts: Well, as of an hour ago, I’m now a BB5 subscriber, and I intend on giving them a few more months to sway me, but as of right now, I find BB5 to be much more intimate, with small, eco-chic and adorable packaging of the box, and worth the price. That being said, $12 just sounds so much more than $10 for the same amount of products as other brands.

This was one of my most exciting reviews to date, and I want to thank BB5 for giving me the chance to review their company. As always I went into this unbiased, and was pleasantly surprised. I plan on keeping you guys updated on my subscription with BB5, hopefully with first-impression videos, as well as catching up with my Birchbox posts so you can compare the two yourself. This post was a long time coming, and I’m so happy to finally share it with you. Please let me know what you think, and any suggestions on what you’d like to see done differently!

Have a lovely day!

May 2012 Birchbox

Hi!

Today I have my Birchbox from May, which has a super awesome theme! It’s a GOSSIP GIRL box!

Algenist | Complete Eye Renewal Balm | Full-size: $65

Dark circles don’t stand a chance against this rich eye cream, which softens fine lines and deflates puffiness with a unique microalgae compound.

Another skincare product! I have to admit, I have no knowledge of eye creams or skincare at all. This balm feels nice, and it hydrates well, but I didn’t really see any reduction in dark circles, though mine are incredibly stubborn, and I don’t have any lines yet. It’s nice, but I won’t pay $65 for it. I just don’t need it. It smells delicious though, and has a great texture. The sample will last a while.

Color Club | Nail Polish in Disco Nap | Full-size: $8

Give nails a gilded look with this luxe metallic polish.

This is a nice blonde gold foil, nothing incredibly special, but nice.

The formula was nice, but the color just isn’t too flattering on me. It acts against the yellow in my skin, and pulls out the red blotches. Nice foil finish with some sparkles.

Dr. Jart + | Waterfuse BB Cream | Full-size: $32

Think of this four-in-one moisturizer, serum, sunscreen, and skin-perfecting tint as the (extremely stylish) Swiss Army Knife of your beauty lineup.

I’ve never tried a BB Cream before, so this is my first experience. First, there wasn’t much product in here, the tiny tube was half empty so I only got to try this once, and I didn’t really have a learning curve. This is pretty thick, it was pretty much a paste, and it never really settled in, but it had a nice finish and looked nice and bright. I haven’t been able to try a BB Cream for an extended length of time yet, so I don’t really “get it” yet.

Ojon | volume advance™ Volumizing Shampoo | Full-size: $22

Made with ultra nourishing Central American ojon oil, this weightless shampoo helps hair look and feel thicker.

I haven’t tried this yet, I forgot about it. But it smells wonderful, and I have some hope for it.

The packaging from this month was special! Pink and yellow bright tissue paper, and a black NYC wrap around the box, as well as a black and pink mailing box, rather than the usual pink and white. The description card was super sleek, with Blair, Blake, and Lily on the front, with NYC lights behind them, and on the back is a light pink with the same lights.

The mailing box looked SO sleek. I was sad to recycle it. I’m a packaging hoarder.

The wrap that slides off of the box. SO. GORGEOUS. I want this picture up on my wall. Without the logos, of course.

Tropical!

That’s it for May 2012!

xoxo

June 2012 Birchbox | Jet Set

Look what came in the mail today! This month, Birchbox has chosen to go with a Jet Set theme! While I never, ever “jet set”, I do love excellent travel sized products. Note to Birchbox, should you read this: Can we have more organic products? They change my life. Kthxbye.

Eyeko | Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in OliveFull-size: $15

Direct from the UK, this user-friendly liquid liner had a genius pen applicator and a super smooth formula.

This is my first Eyeko product, somehow. And I am pleased. I don’t normally use colored liner, I usually stick to black, but I think this liner is something that I could use often. I’m also very glad that I’m not allergic to the green in it. Me + Green = Red, watery eyes. This liner has a very good formula, nearly opaque in one go, it’s a gorgeous deep olive – almost black. The tip is my 2nd favorite style. I prefer flexible felt tips, like the one in my favorite liner, Maybelline Lash Stiletto. I don’t mind pens, but they’re a bit temperamental. And sharp. 🙂 I cannot stand the thin brushes that used to be standard on liquid liners. One negative thing about this is that, while it’s smudge proof, don’t get near water. It turns into a mess. But hey, if you’re wearing liquid eyeliner, you shouldn’t expect to be on the beach and let it stay in place.

Melvita | Rose Floral Water | Full-size: $22

This organic mist works as a light toner and mid-day skin refresher. We also love the delicate scent.

Lovely packaging alert! It also smells delicious, it’s organic and it’s cruelty-free. Yes, yes, and yes. It’s main ingredient is rose water, which is (if you couldn’t tell) a huge plus, and on top of all of this, it’s a good product. It’s super light and refreshing, with a wonderful cooling sensation, which is great for days like yesterday, where it was just hot and humid. A spritz of this calms and cools both you and your face down. Now, it says you can use this as a light toner, but I don’t think it’ll be replacing my Pangea Organics toner, (and not for lack of quality, this product is brilliant), but I will definitely keep it in my purse for a light refreshment in the summer.

theBalm cosmetics | Staniac in Beauty Queen | Full-size: $17

We’re crazy about this two-in-one lip and cheek stain: the sheer gel formula delivers a subtle, long-wearing flush.

First off, I have to say that I am not a huge fan of lip stains. I just don’t like them. Eh. But this one isn’t bad. It leaves a super-light and natural flush, but not enough of one to warrant $17, in my opinion. It’s got a wonderful gel formula that feels cool (almost cold), and dries down to an almost tight feeling, but not too dry. I’m not a fan of the color, because it just brings out all the blotchiness in my skin. I’ve looked at the other colors, but none of them seem worth the slight discomfort and price tag. But nice to have in my stash either way.

Yu-Be | Moisturizing Skin Cream | Full-size: $16

This bestselling Japanese creme has a concentrated formula that heals cracked hands, chapped lips, and other forms of dryness. It’s your new carry-on essential.

Super rich, super moisturizing, and very long lasting. It’s a thick cream that’s got that golden-metallic type color, and it actually smells like Vick’s Vapo Rub. Which is amazing. Right now I have a wicked cold/sinus infection combination, and my lips are so dry. I put this on my lips and it was just as effective as Vick’s. I believe that’s eucalyptus that does that, but I’m not sure. It’s excellent as a hand lotion after exfoliation as well.

LIFESTYLE EXTRA | BAND-AID | Cynthia Rowley Dress Up Band-Aids | Full-size: Pack of 20, $15

Be prepared for life’s little emergencies with these stylish designer bandages.

Cynthia. Rowley. Band-aids. YES. Nothing more need be said about how I feel about it. Not that I use Band-Aids a lot (or ever). A regular at the theater came in with the model one on, and I asked about it. Everyone was shocked that I; A. Knew it was a Cynthia Rowley Band-Aid, and B. Complimented A BAND-AID. I’m a strange duck.

BIRCHBOX MAN EXTRA | John Varvatos Star USA | Full-size: $55-70

In honor of Father’s Day, we’ve included this dapper cologne, a blend of ginger, juniper berries, and vetiver. Pass it on to a lucky guy friend or family member.

I think I may wear this. My dad won’t, so I will. It’s fun. Again, I suck at describing scents. It smells like a mens fragrance that a woman could get away with. It’s one you’d love to have on your guy’s hoodie/shirt/pillow when he’s away. I really like this. I’ve been sitting here smelling my wrist for about a half hour.

This was an excellent box, and there were a couple full size products, making the value of this box way outweigh it’s cost.

Join Birchbox! For $10 a month, you can get luxury beauty samples from well-known brands and will introduce you to products that open your mind to new products you’d never try/hear about otherwise.

April 2012 Birchbox

Oh goodness, I just have the hardest time keeping up with these! I don’t want to throw them up and do some sort of “first impressions” review — I’m a horrible judge when it comes to first impressions. I can be mean and too harsh. These products are exactly why. I thought, “ugh, I don’t want another lip balm, what am I going to do with yet another cuticle cream in my arsenal?” Yet these are some of my favorite products in this box here. Birchbox always brings out the best in their April boxes, I think. And it’s always their most eco-friendly stuff too, for Earth Day. Lets get to it! As always, click on the pictures for large, high-quality photos.

Birchbox says:

Hi there!

This month, we’re bringing things back down to earth with fresh products that take inspiration from the world around us. You’ll find skincare packed with nourishing natural ingredients (they’re practically good enough to eat), healthy hair products, and an optimistic new fragrance.”

Alima Pure | Organic Nourishing Lipbalm in Rhubarb | Full-size: $7

Both wholesome and chic, this tinted balm is made with pure plant butters and delivers a natural flush of color.

This is an amazing lip balm, and one of my go-to lip products, along with my trusty Jack Black. It has an almost gritty/sandy feeling on the first swipe, but then in warms up and smooths on. It’s super soft, slick, and slightly tinted, and very moisturizing. I used it for two weeks straight when I ran out of Jack Black. It worked just as well. It has a sweet, sort of generic scent, and a generic but inoffensive taste. It does add just a natural touch of sheer color. Also, I believe this may be full size, but I’m not too sure on that.

J.R. Watkins | Hand and Cuticle Salve | Full-size: $7.99 (Birchbox has it on their website as $8.99)

Slather on this creamy balm pre-manicure. It’s full of natural moisturizers to keep your hands and cuticles super soft.

I. Love. This. So much. It’s super-ultra-crazy moisturizing, it’s creamy (slightly oily, but not too bad), and it smells good! This is so much better than Burt’s Bees Cuticle Balm, or anything I’ve tried. As any regular reader of this blog will know, I have the driest cuticles ever. I had a super bad dry spot on my knuckle that I tried for months to get rid of in any possible way. As soon as I opened this I put it on and within a day or two the spot was almost gone. It helps with pushing back cuticles easily, and moisturizing cuticles instantly. It is a tad greasy, so I don’t put it on before bed, but I use it before and after a full manicure. This is .25 oz, and full size is 2.1 oz. This will last for a long time, and I will definitely buy the full size. The value is way more than the cost. $9 for a 3-in-1 product?

Jurlique | Moisture Replenishing Day Cream | Full size: $40

Protect your skin from dryness with this botanical cream, which is infused with rosehip and avocado oils.

This is a very nice cream. Very moisturizing, and very nice quality. However, it’s called a day cream, but there’s no SPF in it, and it’s way too thick and a bit too oily to wear under makeup. This is, however an excellent night cream. Obviously, with rosehip and avocado oils in there, it’s not going to be horrible. I wear this every night over my usual CeraVe PM moisturizer, which is thinner. Adding this cream on top after the moisturizer has sunk in is excellent. I’ve seen noticeable improvement to my skin, and no breakouts related to it. It has that “natural” scent, you know, like the “organic” scent that everything good has. The Weleda moisturizer, Pangea products, and my holy grail hand sanitizer (also by Jurlique), all have similar scents, with Weleda and this cream being near identical. I have to find out what they have in common. It’s a delicious scent that makes you feel good about yourself and your impact on this planet. 🙂 This is a good sized sample, even though it’s a tenth of the full size. Full size is 5oz for $40, while this is 0.5oz. This is a good sized tube that could last a while on it’s own, and I wish they’d sell one this size for $4! The packaging is super clean, which I like. I love the box as well.

Wonderstruck Taylor Swift | Full-size, $49.50 – $59.50

The pop-country songstress’ scent is as catchy as her lyrics. We thing it’s worthy of a standing gig on our vanity.

This smells very good. Very good. I suck at describing scents, and nowhere is it described for me. I’m considering buying a rollerball or something small of this. It has a warm, cozy feel to it. It actually smells how the cardboard packaging above looks. It’s clean and sophisticated while staying warm and “relatable.” Some celebrities come out with scents that make them seem otherworldly, or something like Chanel, which smells expensive. This is something I can see Taylor wearing, or Nicole Richie. (Sidenote: I’m so excited for the upcoming perfumes from Nicole Richie and Lady Gaga! It’d be interesting what they come up with.)

However, while I love the packaging of the cardboard sleeve and the sample tube, I hate the whole charm bracelet and round bottle design of the full size perfume. Not that it’s going to be on display, but those things just bother me.

LIFESTYLE EXTRA: Dropps | Laundry Detergent | Pack of 20: $6

Lighten your laundry day load with these single-use, eco-friendly detergent packs. We love their convenience factor and adorable design.

I haven’t tried these yet, as we’ve just received a front loading HE washer, where as before we had an archaic top-loader for 20 years. I’m still not quite sure how to use it, so I can’t say anything for it, review-wise. However, the design isn’t anything to write home about. The outside packaging is super commercial- it’d blend in at Walmart, and the pacs themselves are extremely simple – the usual clear “skin,” with what appears to be water inside. I’m excited to try this, however, just to see how it works. Remember how, at first, eco-friendly products we’re seen as competitive? They just didn’t have the oomph? Well, they’ve all picked up in the past few years, and I’m realizing that I’m gravitating towards them even more as their price points come down. For a pack of 20, I don’t think I’ll pay $6 yet, but we’ll see.

So, final thoughts? I loved every single product in this box. Every single one. Even though I haven’t tried the Dropps, I love the idea of them. So simple and friendly looking.

Any thoughts on these products? Do you have them? What did you get in your Birchbox recently?

My April Birchbox has shipped!

I’m so excited! It’s officially been a year since I joined Birchbox. I’m so happy with what I’ve gotten in the past year. It’s opened my eyes to brands and products I’d have never even thought of trying. In fact, in my first Birchbox, last April, was a product that changed my life- it singlehandedly cured my face of any of the problematic acne I’ve had since tweenhood. (Dear any Pangea Organics product, GET IN MY BATHROOM.)

Birchbox | January 2012 — Photo and Review!

Hello again! Glad to see you! Today I have for you the January 2012 Birchbox. This was a pretty good box, and I really liked most of the products, including the one full size product! Also of note, Birchbox is no longer including the amount that is the full size product. (Example: Full size: 30 fl oz, $50. Now it just says “Full size: $50) I’m not a big fan of the change, I like to imagine what the size would be like to determine how crazy the price is. 🙂

BORGHESE | CuraForte Moisture Intesnsifier | Full size: $67.50

This serum proves that sidekicks deserve a recognition too. Apply before moisturizing or mix it with your favorite cream to help actives work harder.

I’ve just started using this last night, and I like it! It really kicks up the moisture. This is what I’ve needed. I’ll probably post an update on this is a few weeks (or when this runs out). While I probably won’t be able to afford the full size, I’ll be looking for an alternative, STAT.

Juicy Couture | Viva La Juicy | Full size: $69 – 89

This scent will bring out your inner girly girl. Wild berries flirt with mandarin and soft floral notes to create a fragrance that’s fun and happy.

I love this. I absolutely love this. I feel like this is a fall/winter scent though, even though it’s so bright and cheery looking. It’s sweet but still musky enough for me to like it. Of course if a perfume is described as “floral,” “mandarin,” “lemon,” or “sandalwood,” I’m all in. 😉

Jouer | Body Butter | Full size: $32

Ingredient snobs, take note. This rich formula softens rough patches like elbows, with pure shea butter, plus olive and avocado oils.

This is perfect. Absolutely perfect. It has a fairly strong scent, but I enjoy it. It blends in quickly and it makes anything it touches perfectly moisturized and soft. For my personal body product, it’s my holy grail moisturizer. I will most likely pay the $32 for the full size. It’s that good. And the jar is frosted with a soft gold lid. So luxe!

stila | Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner | Full size: $20

It’s time to put down the black liner. This colorful pigment makes eyes stand out and stays put for hours.

The shade I got was called Peacock. This is full sized! And it’s wonderful! It’s extremely opaque, it’s bright enough to be noticeable, and yet it can melt away into a darker smokey eye for a nice twist.

Peacock is a dark blue. It’s technically a teal, but it’s a super-blue-leaning teal. It has amazing shimmer and it’s opaque in one swipe across the waterline. And I have watery eyes. It wears really well on me, though I haven’t actually worn it for 8+ hours before. But it lasts a good 4 hours without even budging, so I can only guess that it’ll be in just about as good of a condition.

LÄRABAR | Mini Bar

You won’t find any artificial fillers in these natural bars: just dried fruits, nuts, and other wholesome ingredients. They’re as tasty as they are healthy.

I ate it. Guilty. Didn’t even get a picture of the packaging. I’ll bet it’s rare if I can ever get a picture of food on here. I love eating. This bar was definitely natural. You can plainly see all of the ingredients. I like that. However, it wasn’t… my favorite thing I’ve ever eaten. But it wasn’t bad. Just not my cup of tea.

That’s it for the January box! Until next time,

~ Britni Rose

Birchbox | December 2011 — Photos and Review

Hello my pretties! …Wow. That’s wicked witch sorta ruined that phrase for everyone didn’t she? Ugh. What an evil person. I’m better than her. Because I have pictures for everyone to see. Today’s are more catch-up pictures of all my Birchboxes. Only 2 more besides this left! Yeah, progress! Let’s get to it.

Birchbox | November 2011

Hi! Another “catch up” Birchbox post! Today’s is November 2011.

Birchbox says:

Hi there,

It’s better to give than to receive, but who says you can’t do both? This month, we’re helping you get a head start on your holiday planning with a collection of gift-worthy products. Try them and let them inspire your own present plans… and we promos not to tell if you but them for yourself!

Klorane | Soothing Eye Makeup Remover with Cornflower | Full size: 3.4oz, $9

Infused with French cornflower extracts, this formula is designed for even the most sensitive eyes.

I’m going to start this off with a packaging fangirl moment. How beautiful is this packaging?! A sapphire blue bottle, a simple white cap, and a pretty wrap. So simple and luxurious. Okay. I like this makeup remover, it’s smooth and gentle and it smells good. I only tried this like 3 or 4 times, because I started having a reaction. My mom loves it though. It’s a fantastic makeup remover.

LaROCCA Skincare | Champagne & Shimmer Body Polish | Full size: 6.76oz, $35

Call us indulgent, but we love this glam scrub, featuring 24K colloidal gold.

This smells good, and has a jelly texture. It reminds me of apricot jam or something, it’s scent and texture. It smells expensive. I haven’t tried it yet, but I might tonight.

Oscar Blandi | Jasmine Protein Mist | Full size: 250ml, $18

Celeb stylist Oscar Blandi’s secret weapon: this leave-in spray protects, fortifies, and revives damp or dry strands.

Hello, beautiful, delicious-smelling spray. This bottle is empty. It’s a milky white spray that smells absolutely devine. I’ll be buying the full size very soon. It made my hair so light and fluffy and shiny and soft without weighing it down or leaving it frizzy. And it smells amazing. Did I mention that? Try this as soon as you can.

Zoya | Nail Polish in Noel | Full size: 0.5 oz, $8

This shimmery denim shade from Zoya’s holiday 2011 collection fits just right – just like your favorite blue jeans.

I’ve reviewed this before, I swear. But apparently not. It’s a foil-y, shimmery blue with a strong silver effect. It’s pretty, but I wasn’t wowed. You guys must know by now that I love color.

TREAT: Chuao Chocolatier | Firecracker Chocopod | Full size: 2.8oz, $6

Spicy and sweet, these artisinal dark chocolate treats are laced with chipotle and popping candy.

This didn’t even make it until the rest of the products were out of the box. It didn’t stand a chance. It was good. I think. It was strange, it’s hard to tell. It’s a rich dark chocolate, and that’s what you taste first. Then it’s like someone threw in some Pop Rocks. Then once you swallow, you get a lot of heat from the chipotle. It was the most different chocolate I’ve ever eaten.

EXTRA: Baublebar Bracelet

I got an option from Birchbox that month to get a free Baublebar bracelet. Well, I’m not gonna say no! And turns out I LOVE IT. I wear it very very often. Love, love, love, love it.

That’s all for November. Some strong products in this box. Love when it’s a strong month.

Have a fantastic, wonderful, perfect day!

Birchbox | October 2011

AHAVA | Mineral Foot Cream | Full size: 3.9oz, $19

After all those ouchy hours in high heels, out feet deserve a treat — like this hydrating cream, which has natural avocado and jojoba oils to soften and soothe.

I. Love. This. This is honestly so amazing. It’s super moisturizing and I use it all the time. It doesn’t smell like a foot cream, either! I find major improvements in my feet after using this. And I hate my feet. Well,  I hate feet in general… but I digress. Go buy this. Or get a sample or something. Just… try this.

blinc | Mascara | Full size: 0.21oz | $24

This tubing mascara won’t smear, smudge or run — plus it gives lashes a sassy, extra glossy look.

I like this. But I don’t find myself reaching for it. It’s weird. It slides off, with warm water. It’s so weird. I like it. The mascara itself is pretty good. It give nice full black thick lashes that feel soft and stay until you come into contact with warm water for an extended period of time. Pro: somewhat waterproof, if the water isn’t warm. Also doesn’t sweat off or move an inch. Con: It’s kinda hard to remove and it’s weird seeing tubes slide off your lashes.

I’ve been sent their liquid liner too, and that was the same way. I liked that too. But the one thing I like is the packaging. It comes in this little purple tin tube, and it has a cap that screws off, then this is inside:

I’m a sucker for packaging.

This has a nice wand too. I prefer natural bristles.

Ouidad | Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel | Full size: 6oz, $16

A styling aid with brains! When this non-sticky gel senses heat, it stops hair from expanding. Welcome to frizz-free curls.

Now… I opened my Birchbox when I first got it… said “ooh!” …and never saw this product again. I don’t know where it could have gone. Sorry. :/

Pangea Organics | Facial Scrub | Full size: 4 fl oz, $32

This all-natural scrub uses cranberry seed enzymes and finely ground adzuki bean to clear away dead skin so that your products can do their job.

I love this brand. My skin was wayward and lost before Birchbox introduced me into their toner. And now their scrub has taken over my St. Ives Apricot Scrub. The St. Ives scrub is just as good, but it can be a tad rough when my skin is behaving. Also, the Pangea one smells amazing. If you’ve never tried this brand, you’re missing out.

Well, that’s about all for now. I have November and December’s Birchbox coming up soon.

Have a wonderful day!

Birchbox | March 2012

Hi everyone! Today I have this months Birchbox, which I got this morning. I had to post this as soon as I could. Now, this month was a little different. I had a choice, I could choose a regular March Birchbox, or I could opt in for a Birchbox with items hand-picked by Teen Vogue. I decided to switch it up and opted for the Teen Vogue box. I don’t regret it. This was a quality box, with TWO FULLSIZE ITEMS. Yeah, I know, right?

Birchbox says:

This month, you’ll get to try party-ready products from top brands, all hand-picked by the beauty editors at Teen Vogue.

This Birchbox came with a fancy pink wrap!

Annick Goutal | Petite Chérie | Full size: $85

A blend of fresh fruity notes and musk, this French fragrance is the definition of understated chic.

Now… I don’t know how I feel about this yet. It’s not really “me,” but I kind of like it. I couldn’t describe scents to save my life, so I guess I’d agree with the card. 🙂

essie | luxeffects | Full size: $8

Layer this glittery top coat onto any polish for an eye-catching look.

YAY FOR FULL SIZED PRODUCTS! Now… this is why I’m glad I have Birchbox. I’d have never tried this. In fact, the entire collection bored me. Glitters aren’t all that exciting for me. When I saw this in my box, I kinda got giggly. I got excited. So I put it on instantly.

A Cut Above is a metallic bubblegum pink glitter. The glitter is in a clear base and is different shapes and sizes. It’s a really good formula for a glitter. It wasn’t a paste. And this is over Wet N Wild’s new polish Disturbia. And yeah, Disturbia was about to come off, but I got distracted by Birchbox goodies. So this is rough, but LOOK AT MY RING FINGER. This glitter is PERFECT over this eggplant vampy purple. I may repeat this manicure later on in the week. Disturbia deserves it’s own post as well.

Shisedo | Pureness Oil-Control Blotting Papers | 100 Sheets: $18

These mattifying tissues are coated with transparent rice powder to leave your skin perfectly shine-free.

I haven’t used these, mostly because I don’t have any issues with shine at all. But, they’re obviously good quality, judging by the other reviews on other sites. Sorry I can’t help you with this one.

tarte | LipSurgance lip tint | Full size: $24

This long-lasting stain adds rich pigment and is designed to boost the moisture levels in your lips.

AWWW YEAH! A full size product! Now… I love this lip stain. But it is a lip stain. So it’s not moisturizing. Or not that I found. But it’s SOOOO pretty. Once the stain sets and the gloss disappears, I just pop some of my Jack Black balm and voila! Color and moisture. The color lasts for a long time, as expected from a balm. And I love the color.

The color I got was Amused. Which is, naturally, a Birchbox Pink color. It twists up (and down) and has a silver cap. Now… this is big. Like a whiteboard Expo marker big. Which I think is so cool! Nothing like a giant pencil made out of lipstick.

See? It’s cool. The tube isn’t exactly color correct, the stain is a warmer pink, which I absolutely love. I’m not a pink girl at all, but make it a “coral,” “peach,” or “watermelon” color and I’m all over it. Now I’m going to post the first ever picture of the swatch on my lips. I’m a little nervous.

There, that wasn’t so bad. It was like pulling a band-aid. Now here’s a much easier swatch.

twistband | Hair Tie | 12 pack, $18

Give your ponytail a makeover with these colorful, snag-free elastics.

Last but not least. And yes, I got one of these before, I don’t know if I covered them yet or not, but they’re amazing. This is a peachy orange tie, and I also have a black one. These are so awesome. They blend in with your bracelets and last as long, if not longer than a regular hair tie. Seriously, these are amazing.

And that concludes this month’s box. I was so happy with this one. I love all the skincare products I get, but I really signed up for Birchbox for the makeup in the first place, so this box was refreshing and exciting.

If you don’t know what Birchbox is, it’s a monthly subscription (just like a magazine) for $10 a month. You get deluxe samples (that means ones that are big enough for you to use) of many high end brands you may not have access to normally, or ones you didn’t want to splurge on for you to try. And I find it so worth the $10. In each box I find one or two products that change my life or change my views on a product.

For example:

  • Full size Essie polish: $8
  • Full size Tarte lip stain: $24
  • Hair tie: $1.50
  • Shiseido blotting papers: $1.80

That means that the products in this box that I will use totals up to a worth of $35.30. I’d say that’s worth it. 😉

Go here to sign up for Birchbox!

Have a nice day!
